Speech Contest at MJG high school Grade1(Ⅰrui)

Every year at MJG High School 4 speech contests take place. These are some of the most important events in our school as all students take part.

On Thursday, January 19th, 2023, the grade 1 I rui speech contest final took place in Keimon Hall. It was one of the biggest speech contests organized in our school.

It all started at the end of August 2022 with the first lessons of the second term. Every week, in the 総合探究 Class, students made a speech on a different topic and learned different skills.

At the end of the 2nd term in the first stage – group stage ALL 538 students did a speech in front of their group (each class is split in two groups). Next, in the second stage-class stage, 112 students (6 to 11 students/class) competed for a place in the final. In the end, 19 students were selected for the final on January 19th, 2023.

During the months of December and January all 19 finalists came to the English Room a few times a week to meet with their coaches: Mr. Hayashi, Mr. Maxim, Mr. Kelleher and Adarsh sensei. They practiced very hard to improve their speeches, their pronunciation and intonation, gestures and so on. On January 19th they were all ready to speak in front of more than 500 people! Their speeches, on various topics, truly inspired the audience. Many students felt motivated to study more and improve their English skills.

The level was very high and the five judges had a very difficult task to select the winners. Miss Mai Hirakawa of class 1-1 won the first prize with a speech titled “My Australian Friend.” In second place was Mr. Taisei Yamashita, also from class 1-1. His speech, titled “GTY-Great Teacher Yamashita,” was a very entertaining speech about his dream of becoming a teacher. In third place came Mr. Eiki Tanaka from 1-5. His speech, titled “Kickboxing Power,” was about the kickboxing image and his dream of becoming a pro kickboxer.

There were also two prizes awarded for the People’s Choice Award for Tomoyoshi Komori in 1-11 and the English Room Award for great effort for Mr. Shu Nakahara in 1-12.

Thank you to all students for their effort and enthusiasm and to all the teachers involved for their guidance and support.
